Done
I had a take-home essay due at 6:30 tonight for my African-American lit class, I finished it at 6:29. I printed the it off in the Andreas computer lab and sprinted to my professor’s office in Mills with essay in hand. It was my victory lap, I could see the finish line. I dropped the essay on her desk and, after saying a short good-bye, left that office a free man. My first year of college is complete and I feel like a champ. I’ll be headed home in the morning to make that eight hour trek home.

Almost there!
My hall lost the IM soccer championship on Thursday. I finished my two hardest exams on Friday.I leave for home on Wednesday.
This semester has absolutely flown by, it seems like I just got back from Christmas break, yet I am just about done with my first year of college. Scary. I hope the rest of my college career slows down a little bit; I want to prolong my inevitable escape into reality for as long as possible.
Here I go into my final day of studying for the semester. Ah, it feels so good.

Staying sane
I am, just as every other student is at this college, loaded with things to do before I get to go home. I think next week at this time my stress level could be a complete polar opposite from what is right now. I am staying sane, surprisingly enough, mostly by soaking myself in good music while I write papers, and studying outside as much as possible. One great that’s happened this week is my hall’s intramural soccer team. After winning the first two games of the playoffs on Tuesday and Wednesday, we are now playing for the championship tonight. Well, off to a great day full of studying. I’m so excited.

IM Soccer
My floor’s intramural soccer team has played four games now, and we’ve only won one of them. Last night we had a tough loss to Blackwatch 2-1. They had a pretty solid team, but we definitely should’ve pulled out the win. I am not one to attribute the outcome of any sporting event to the calls-or lack thereof-made by the refs, but this game could be an exception. Just kidding. They had a good team and we just got outplayed, the refs had no influence in the outcome at all. Oh well, we are in the playoffs and that is all that matters. I might be the worst soccer player on the field, but I have the right to say that we’re going all the way to championship.
Go Union.

Church
I haven’t gone to Ethos, the church I normally attend, for about a month now. Sickness, visiting other churches, and a Braves Game kept me from the place that I look forward to worshiping at each Sunday. Today I was back at my church and it was such a relief to worship with a body of believers whom I consider to be my church family. The sermon was based on a series the church is doing called “Why?”, which focuses on basic questions about why we believe in the Bible and its implications on our lives. Today our pastor focused on how important the Bible is to the Christian faith, and why we consider it to be the one and only “truth”. It was a great sermon that really spoke to me in a lot of ways and forced me to look at the things in my faith which are most important. I think too often we get caught up in the complexity of theology that we sometimes overlook some of the basic principles about our faith that lie right in front of us in God’s word. To hear my pastor speak fundamentals was something I really needed to hear.

Sleeping at Last
Last night in the chapel an event took place that might have changed my life forever. The band “Sleeping at Last” played a concert organized by my RA as part of his Senior Project. A few months ago when he told me that he got a band called Sleeping at Last to play, I was not very excited because I had not heard a lot of their music before. I got some of their stuff to listen to during the few weeks before the concert and I fell in love. With heart-turning lyrics, celestial string arrangements, and a voice that numbs your whole body, Sleeping at Last encompasses what music is supposed to sound like. The passionately sung songs with dreamlike backing instrumental sounds made the show something that I will never forget, and a band I will never stop listening to.
Seriously, go check them out. They might change your life too.

Guys and Dolls
Last Saturday I got to see the spring musical put on by the music and drama departments here at the school. This year they did the famous musical “Guys and Dolls.” I hadn’t really seen any of the drama productions before so I didn’t know what to expect, but I was surprised to see how well done the performance was. I had never seen the play done anywhere else before, but I thought these guys pulled it off pretty impressively. If you ever get a chance to see a production here at Covenant, I would highly recommend it.

Foggy Day
Today it is really foggy on the mountain. As dismal as it makes the day seem, I kind of like the effect that it adds to the small task of walking from class to class. I really wish the great 60 degree weather we had earlier this week though, it made me want summer to be here.

“Flavored Water”
I love flavored water. Let me tell you why.
We all know the term water right? You learn it growing up as the drink defaulted to when there is no milk left, you’re really thirsty, or it’s coming out of a sprinkler onto your body on a hot summer day. This is water. We know water to be pure, clean, clear
Here is a list reasons for why I am intrigued by flavored water
1) It is clear. How do you manufacture a flavor that is clear. I know it’s really scientific and I know it’s really cool.
2) Often called “Fitness Water” it is perceived by many of our fellow naive Americans as an option equivalent to regular water except with added benefits of “nutrients” and “vitamins.” None of this is a remedy for the sugar content in the bottle of “water” however, and therefore makes the bottle much worse than plain water.
3)You can now buy “fitness water” in little packets of powder (I had no idea water could be made into powder form). These packets, when mixed with regular water, form a tasty drink very similar to the fitness water found in the bottle.
I think these are substantial enough for everyone to start enjoying this great new revolution. So go buy some of this stuff and see what it’s like. It’s so great, in fact, that I don’t think I would change anything about it but one thing, it’s name. You really can’t include the word “water” in the title. I mean, it’s got a great taste, you can reduce it to powder, and it’s got like 100 calories a bottle. What kind of water can be reduced to powder? Anyways…..check it out some time. drink some.
cheers.
